In this workshop, you will learn a session-by-session integrative CBT approach based on the evidenced therapeutic models of Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), Cognitive Therapy (CT), Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (CBH). Up to 1 in 5% of the UK population will develop Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) at some stage in their lives and the impact of this chronic condition can range from mild inconvenience to severe debilitation. It can control many aspects of a person’s emotional, social and professional life; an additional burden coming from the fact we live in a society where using the word “bowel” may also be an embarrassment for some sufferers. This Workshop will look at how to help people manage their symptoms and regain a measure of control with an integrative approach. It also employs techniques from the research-based Manchester protocol pioneered by professor Peter Whorwhell on gut-based hypnotherapy protocol. The workshop is designed for both counsellors and hypnotherapists.
You will learn:
- Overview of IBS and current treatment options
- How to make a clinical assessment
- How thinking affects symptoms
- The cognitive behavioural model of IBS
- Common beliefs that underpin IBS
- The mindful approach
- CBH gut-based protocol
- Gaining control – relaxation and hypnotic techniques to aid recovery
- (Calm, Anxiety about Anxiety suggestions)
- A session-by-session approach suitable for counsellors and hypnotherapists.
